ADA MICHAELS-MASON        Film Actress

A little message from me

Hi, I’m Ada.

If you’ve made it this far, I suppose you’re either very curious, very bored, or we have something in common.

I’ve always been a little obsessed with people — the beautiful parts, the ugly parts, and especially the parts we try very hard not to show anyone. I think that’s probably why I became an actress. I like getting underneath things. A smile is rarely just a smile, a villain is rarely just a villain, and the nicest person in the room is sometimes the one you should be most suspicious of.

I fell in love with storytelling long before I understood that it could be a career. I wrote stories and little books as a child, danced my way through most of my youth, fell into musical theatre, flirted seriously with music and songwriting, and eventually realised that acting was where all those pieces seemed to meet.

I’m drawn to characters with teeth. Women who are complicated, romantic, dangerous, obsessive, wounded, powerful, ridiculous — sometimes all at once. I love the dark feminine, the psychology behind desire, and the strange little contradictions that make people human. Give me a character with a secret and I’m probably already emotionally attached.

My approach to acting is quite immersive. I tend to disappear into my characters a little — sometimes perhaps more than is entirely convenient. I use memories, emotions and pieces of myself to find the truth of someone who may be nothing like me. The goal is never simply to play a character, but to understand her so completely that, for a moment, I forget where she ends and I begin.

And when I'm not acting, I'm usually writing, dancing, listening to music far too loudly, falling down some obscure historical rabbit hole, or romanticising something that probably doesn't need romanticising.

I think life is made of stories — some beautiful, some tragic, some completely unhinged. I want to tell all of them.

And preferably the interesting ones.

Ada x
